Reality-check take

Candy AI packs more into one browser app than almost any AI chat companion: unlimited text chat, image generation, voice notes and calls, image-to-video, "Live Action" scenes and a Story Mode. On the annual plan it costs just $3.99 a month. The subscription, however, is only the entry ticket. Images, voice and video are paid in tokens, and people who use a lot of media can end up paying far more than the advertised price.

Worth testing free if: people who value variety and will pay for media item by item
Skip even free if: long-term memory or an all-inclusive flat price is a must

What the product is before you pay

Candy AI lives at candy.ai and is run by EverAI Limited, a Malta-registered company. It started in 2023 and is among the most heavily advertised names in AI companions for adults (18+ only). Users chat with ready-made realistic or anime characters from a large library, or build a companion by setting appearance, personality, voice and relationship type.

There is no official native app from EverAI; the service is a web app, and on phones you add it to your home screen. Independent reviewers point out that store apps using the Candy name may not be official.

What actually works without paying

Live Action and clips

Two video options: animating a generated image into a short clip, and scripted "Live Action" scenes on selected characters. Reviewers report clip lengths of up to 120 seconds on some features, longer than most rivals offer. It is also the most token-hungry feature.

Voice features

Voice messages are included, and "live audio" calls are in beta at a reported 3 tokens or so per minute.

Image quality and cost

Users rate image quality well overall. The complaints: specific details like clothing, setting or pose can be ignored, and failed generations still cost tokens. A standard image is roughly 4 tokens by third-party estimates, since per-item rates are not on the pricing page. You can request images in chat or generate them directly.

Character creation

The builder covers style, ethnicity, body, hair, personality, voice and relationship type. According to the help centre, custom characters are now made on a newer "V2" engine for better realism and consistency.

Chat

Text chat is unlimited on Premium and never touches your tokens, making it the best-value part of the subscription. The chat quality and how different each character feels are what Trustpilot reviewers praise most. A frequent tip from long-term users: learn how to ask for longer replies, because default answers can be brief.

Memory and Story Mode

Memory is Candy's weak spot. An analysis of 100 Trustpilot reviews from February 2026 found memory lapses were the most-cited complaint, even from 5-star reviewers. Premium Plus adds 20 manual memory slots, which helps a little. Story Mode, meanwhile, layers a guided scene-by-scene narrative over the chat.

For the widest mix of chat, pictures, voice and video under one login, Candy is the benchmark others are measured against.

Stay free if… unlock if…

Recommended for people who want companion chat, custom pictures, voice notes and occasional video in one place and who accept tokens as a separate cost. Mostly chatting? The annual plan is one of the cheapest ways to get unlimited messages from a well-known operator.

Not recommended if reliable memory of recent conversations is essential, if extra charges for every picture will irritate you, or if you want a thorough free test, since the trial ends after a few messages.

Free-tier FAQ

Is there a free version?

Only a short trial with a few messages and possibly a sample image. After that Candy AI needs a subscription, and media costs tokens as well.

How much should a beginner expect to pay?

$13.99 for one month, $26.97 for three months ($8.99/month) or $47.88 for a year ($3.99/month), based on the official subscriptions page in September 2026.

What are tokens?

Candy's credit for images, voice messages and calls, image-to-video, some Live Action content and private content packs. Chatting by text on Premium is unlimited and does not use tokens.

What if I want a refund?

Outside the EU and UK you generally need to ask within 24 hours of paying and have used 20 tokens or fewer. EU and UK customers can withdraw within 14 days of a first purchase.

What does the charge look like on my statement?

"Everai", according to independent reviews, rather than "Candy AI". The product is not named, but the charge is not anonymous.

Reality-check takeaway

Candy AI offers more features than any mainstream rival and a very low annual price for chat-first users. The trade-offs are clear: tokens for every picture, voice clip and video, memory as its weakest area, and a short refund window. Accept those and it remains the benchmark in this category.
